Over the last twenty-five years, Texas-born Dusty Wakeman has amassed more than 100 production and engineering credits, working with artists as diverse as Dwight Yoakam, Bachelor Number One, Jim Lauderdale, Lucinda Williams and Buck Owens. He’s also an accomplished bass player who's recorded with and toured with Michelle Shocked, Jim Lauderdale and Rosie Flores, his deep commitment to make outstanding music has given him a sensitivity that allows him to transcend genres.  He’s received numerous accolades during his career,   including  recording  two Grammy award winners -  1987 Best Country Vocal Collaboration Crying ( Roy Orbison/K.D. Lang duet),  and 1993 Best Country Male Vocal Performance of  Ain't That Lonely Yet (Dwight Yoakam)".

After 16 years of owning and operating Mad Dog Studios in Venice, California,  Wakeman relocated the studio to a 6000 square foot complex in Burbank in 1996.  Being a working musician, producer and engineer, Dusty brings a unique sensitivity to owning and operating a recording facility.  “The more records you make, the more you know,”  Wakeman explains.  “The secret is never to take the process for granted and to always pay attention to what is best for the client's project and to create an environment for the artist to achieve their vision.”

For Wakeman,  it's getting to the heart of the music that's important, which is part of what has brought such a diverse group of artists to work with him.  In 2004, Dusty was chosen to be the  musical director and bassist for The Tribute to Gram Parsons at the Santa Barbara Bowl.    Among the artists who participated were Keith Richards, John Doe, Dwight Yoakam, Raul Malo, Nora Jones and Jim Lauderdale.   Below is a quote from an article in Variety, which mentions Dusty, along with a quote from Dusty about the tribute.
"The artists took advantage of their positions. With the help of house band the Sin City All Stars….led by bassist Dusty Wakeman, who's played on many of the other performers' records….there was very little straight-up hero worship and much more influence-rendering. ….Through it all, the revolving-door members of the Sin City All Stars played the songs as if they lived in them, souping up solos with sizzling slides or simmering down the slow songs with actively tasteful plucking. It was apparent their professionalism put the other performers at ease."

It is his professionalism, his comfort and prowess in the studio or onstage, and his ability to hear what is best for and project he is involved with that makes Dusty Wakeman a consummate engineer/producer/mixer.
